If a sea of chrome grins puts you in the holiday spirit, then the Turkey Run at Daytona Beach is right down your alley. Starting at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, it's the place to be for the thousands who've traded turkey on the home table for an event that's been going strong since 1974. As the Southeast's biggest car meet, you'll have plenty to drool over - just don't embarrass yourself.
Buying, Selling or Looking?
You can do it all! Put on your walking shoes and head down to the Daytona International Speedway infield, because that's where all the action begins. For those with itchy wallets, the Car Corral is a place where you can sell and trade. You may find the perfect budget-friendly build and, with a Notary Public on site, it's possible to drive away with your prize the same day. If you're looking for that special part, you're likely to find it here, as well from a wide array of specialty vendors.
Among the more than 6,000 cars expected, some are real show-stoppers that will make hearts race. From award-winners to everyday drivers, it's a never-ending collection for hobbyists and serious collectors. Covering all the best from Model As into the late and great 1970s, there's literally a jalopy, rod and muscle car for everyone.
Family Fun, too!
While it's hard to imagine some family members may not want to look at cars, you don't have to leave the spoil-sports at home. There's a great food court, a craft and vendor section, and prize giveaways all day long.
Don't be too upset if you're stuck at home for a traditional family gathering. There's always next year and another Turkey Run that's gearing up for March 30-April 1, 2012.
Daily entry fees (Thurs-Sat) are $15 for adults and $10 on Sun. Kids aged 11 & under enter free.
