    i have a 87 ranger in which is a 3 speed w/od auto
    a short time ago it started taking time to go into gear then i would have to rev the moter for it to go into gear then finaly it lost 1st 2nd 3rd and od
    but.... it still has reverse please give me some ideas on what it could be

    A friend of mine has a 97 Probe with the stock stereo and there is a strange hum that goes in and out when the stereo is on.Is it a bad wire connection or something more, can anyone help?

    I have a 96 blazer, the service engine light has been on. i took it to Auto Zone and they ran it on the computer and it came up "po172 System too rich (BANK 1)". From this comment I assume that considering my truck has 83,000 miles, that it must be the O2 sensor, but what does BANK 1 mean? I asked the guy at Auto Zone and he said it was the part of the car before the Cat converter, but there are 2 sensors there. I changed both of them infront of the Cat converter and the service light did not go off. Does anyone know what it could be?

    The horn won't work. I checked the fuse and it was OK. What else do I need to do? Is the dealer repair shop the only answer?

    My chevy was accelerating by itself--I wasn't touching the gas pedal--so I pressed the brakes and luckily rolled into a rest area off of the interstate, threw it into park and pulled the keys out. The brakes were glowing and there was smoke all over. A mechanic told me over the phone to disable the cruise control on the side of the transmission with a pair of pliars, but I don't know what to look for. He says he doubts I did much damage to the brakes. Anyone have advice?

    I have an 89 lincoln gran marquis... it was losing antifreeze, not sure where it was going...no leaks. then yesterday, the engine light came on, and i had smoke/steam... and no heat inside the car. the radiator overflow overflowed... we took it and had the thermostat replaced, and then it did it again, last night. i was 15 miles out of town. I stopped, let it cool down some, and drove all the way back home without any trouble. the guy at the shop thought we had a blown head gasket... does this sound logical?

    I'm trying to remove my crankshaft pulley and can't get the bolt loose. I am using an impact wrench with 230ftlb of torque with no luck. Does anyone know what the torque is on this bolt or do I need to get better wrench?

    I recently purchased a 91 Ford Explorer 4WD 5 sp and I am really enjoying the vehicle but it is giving me some troubles. I recently replaced the radiator myself and had a mechanic replace the front seal to fix some major coolant leakage. About one week after this was complete, the car has developed a ticking noise that is 1) accleration dependent (ie, the ticking is faster as the car speeds up), 2) not constant, and 3) is sometimes a single tick-tick-tick and at other times is a double tick (almost overlapping). It does not stop after the engine warms up, but like I say it comes and goes.

    The previous owner used Mobile 1 synthetic oil. I have a bad feeling that the mechanic I went to for the front seal repair did not use synthetic oil. Could this be the cause? What could this switch do?

    Any adivse as to what to look would be most appreciated.

    1. I have 1995 buick regal 3.8L V engine. In August the antifreeze leaked out and the temp gage went very close to the red. I stopped in time and my amateur buddy replaced the water pump.

    Now if I am in traffic jam the gage starts going up and as soon as I put the heating to high and the fan at top blast the gage goes down. OR if I do 2 or more short stops and start the gage goes up and I start the heating and it goes down. What is the solution and how much should it cost?

    2. At the same tinme my buddy replaced the spark plugs. The last spark plug at the back was difficult to replace. As soon as I started the engine we could smell oil burning but it went away.

    But after that whenever I go at 80KMpH (50MPH) I hear a noise like a tapping on a drum(hard to describe). Noise comes on if I try to accelerate too quick or try going up a hill. Otherwise the car is very smooth. Are the 2 problems related? What is the solution to this one and what will it cost? Can my buddy fix both of them/

    my car died today and when i tried to restart it it just made a clicking noise so i cleaned the connections on the battery and reconnected them but it still didnt work so i checked the actual battery and its still good does anyone know what the problem could be ?

    I am installing a cd player in my mustang and i got the power hook up and all that, but i can't get the speakers connected. the problem is that the color of the wires leaving the speakers are different than the color of the wires coming into the place where the cd player goes. PLEASE HELP ME!! Thanks

    I have my car at the dealership. I've had it 2 months and I purchased the extended warrranty. My problem is the heater does not work. As soon as I turn it on it blows warm for about 5 seconds then cold. They are completly flushing the entire system. They are not sure if it is the heater core at this time. I'm waiting for a call back. Any ideas on this one? I'm hoping that my warranty covers the core if it needs one. Thanks

    I have a 96 sable with 135,000 miles. It has been services regularly. The sevrice engine lite has been coming on and then going out just before i decide to take it to the shop. Today it came on again and has stayed on. I called the shop and they asked me if it was shifting ok, which it is..any ideas?

    Hello,
    I have a 99 Accord EX-V6 SE with 30K miles on it. I needed to replace the front pads since I had only 25% left on em. After replacing the pads, I had a nasty squealing problem at the front right side. After taking the car back to the repair shop they also said my rear's were due...so I replaced the rear pads as well. I can't seem to get rid of this totally annoying squeal. Has anyone had any success with aftermarket pads on the Accord? Raybestos is the brand. I have spoken with other shops and they tell me to get OEM pads from Honda. Would that really make a difference?

    I have a 91 Civic DX and the seat belt chime and light will not shut off. Even with all belts buckled it dings constantly. If I could at least get a wiring diagram and find the seat belt warning module I can fix it. Any help is much appreciated....

    I'm a college student that is a delivery driver for a local restaurant in my town. Because we are in and out of places alot, our cars are usually idling most of the time....Recently, a friend of mine said that it is better to turn off the car as it is not good to keep it idling over 1 minute(the car is a honda accord '96)...however, i have also been told that constant starting and stopping of the engine is bad as that wears down the electrical systems and that there is no air being blown over the engine which IMO would be worse off for it. Thanx

    I just had the clutch replaced on a 1990 subaru legacy ( front wheel drive) and now i am experiencing a shutter in my car as i drive in my lower gears - i was wonderng if this might mean that my timing gear is in trouble - i havent had it replaced since i got the car - i got it at 70,000 miles and i now have over 130,000. Just a bout to take a 500 mile round trip which my wife realy wants to take to visit a relative who is leaving to go back home to the philipines and she really wants to go - i am wondering if i am doing a very stupid thing.

    any advise ?

    code 42 shows up on my 90 olds cierra 3.3l engine it starts and dies after 2-3 seconds....plugs r wet will not run we changed the crankshaft sensor still wont run that leaves the ecu....but shoud read code 55 if its bad or the troddle position senser....help!!!!

    My 97 nissan sentra's battery repeatedly goes dead after sitting for two-plus days. I have replaced the battery and had the electrical system checked. It was ok. There is a current draw from the battery when the car is turned off. I cannot identify anything i.e a light, that is causing the current drain. Has anyone had a similar problem?

    I have a 97 Chevy Lumina, and recently my antifreeze has been disappearing but I cant find a leak. i also check my oil, and there was three times as much in there. I think my antfreeze is mixing with my oil. because it not bloack or clear, it a runny brownish substance. Could someone please help me. I don't know what do
