93 VW golf

I have a 93 VW Golf that is wonderful EXCEPT whenever I drive the car the smell of gasoline is so strong and noxious that I'm nauseated after I'm finished driving. The VW dealer says there is "nothing wrong with it" another dealer tried to sell me a new $500 muffler system (I put one in a year ago trying to "fix" the problem) Can anyone here help me? signed: Poisened by gasoline in a VW golf.

check or have someone check for you the vapor hose from the fuel tank. being a 93 and pre OBD2, you shouldn't have an active evaporative emmission system. the tank still needs to vent evaporated gas (fumes) back to the engine to be burned.

if its gas you smell the other guy is right,if its exhust fumes,cheap exhusts pipes and muflers dont last long
