i have a 87 ranger in which is a 3 speed w/od auto
a short time ago it started taking time to go into gear then i would have to rev the moter for it to go into gear then finaly it lost 1st 2nd 3rd and od
but.... it still has reverse please give me some ideas on what it could be

1. Maladjusted or damaged manual linkage(gearshifer). Check for this when installing repaired trans as it will "smoke" this trans in short order.2. Foreward clutch center support seals leaking.3. Fwd clutch frictions burnt, leaking piston seals and/or check ball in clutch cylinder leaking.4. Junk in valve body or vb bolts loose.If fwd clutch pack is burnt,as I suspect, make shure to clean out valve body,replace the converter(flushing not worth the risk or hassle of doing this all over again), flush the cooler lines and flush (or a better idea,replace) cooler.
