system too rich!
I have a 96 blazer, the service engine light has been on. i took it to Auto Zone and they ran it on the computer and it came up "po172 System too rich (BANK 1)". From this comment I assume that considering my truck has 83,000 miles, that it must be the O2 sensor, but what does BANK 1 mean? I asked the guy at Auto Zone and he said it was the part of the car before the Cat converter, but there are 2 sensors there. I changed both of them infront of the Cat converter and the service light did not go off. Does anyone know what it could be?

I have a 96 blazer and was having the same problem. My problem was solved by replacing the gas cap because there is a sensor that triggers the light when the cap is not on properly, or there is too much wear on the threads. After you replaced your sensors did you disconnect your computer and allow it time to reset. Try these, good luck
Bank 1 is the side of the
Bank 1 is the side of the motor that contains cylinder #1. The check engine light will not reset on its own even if the correct repair is made. it must be reset with a scan tool.
BANK 1 MEANS THE SIDE OF THE
BANK 1 MEANS THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE WHERE THE #1 CYLINDER IS LOCATED, BANK 2 IS THE OPPOSITE SIDE.SINCE THE LIGHT DID NOT GO OFF I AM ASSUMING THAT THERE WAS STILL POWER GOING TO THE KAM(KEEP ALIVE MEMORY) IN THE PROCESSOR, TRY TO DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY FOR A GOOD 30mins. THIS MAY CLEAR IT.IF IT DOES NOT CLEAR THEN THERE MAY BE SOMETHING ELSE WRONG, CAUSING BANK#1 TO RUN RICH.
